Many people enjoy having Hello Kitty accessories to show off their love for the cute white kitten. She can take something that is plain and boring and turn it in to something that is bright, happy, and cute. In my search for more interesting Hello Kitty gear, I have found personalized Hello Kitty checks. That’s right Hello Kitty is now on all of my personal checks for my banking needs.

For those who don’t know, Hello Kitty is an ever increasing popular cartoon icon across the world. In some countries, such as Japan, Hello Kitty is just as popular as some of the pop singers and idols. She has her own TV show and her face is on almost any item you can think of. She is actually very interesting and has just as many traits as you and I. For example, I know that she loves to eat cookies, listen to music, and hang out with her friends. She lives in London and has a family, friends, and many pets. But enough about her life, let’s get back to talking about the Hello Kitty Checks. 

Personal checks have been slowly fading in North America. The most common thing to pay for items is plastic whether you use a credit card or a debit card. There is even a Hello Kitty credit card, which you can only get online. Personal checks use to be extremely common, but because they are easily forged and the money takes a while to clear at the bank, most businesses simply don’t want to take the risk of being ripped off and having to go through the process of getting their money back. 

Hello Kitty has always said “you can never have too many friends.” One of the things I like about Hello Kitty checks is that when you pull one out at the bank, it instantly draws attention and you end up engaging with the people around you. When this happens, you can easily make new friendships. I think perhaps she should be an icon for world peace and friendship. 

I tried to buy some Hello Kitty checks at my local bank but they were unable to order them. I actually found that you can order them from almost any online checkbook store, not to mention you can also buy matching check book covers. One thing I’ve always recommended is to do some shopping around before making a purchase. Sometimes these checkbook stores will have sales up to 50% and it becomes a real steal. 

Regardless of the fact that the personal check is going the way of the hand written letter, I will continue to use my Hello Kitty checks for as long as I can use them. It’s easy to setup online bill payments and pay by plastic, but there is something more real about paying with a check. I think we need to hang on to our social interactions as much as possible before it’s too late. Nothing says “wow, cute!” like a Hello Kitty check.
